Registered Industrial Wastewater Professional Credential

The RIWP exam consists of a challenging 100-question exam with one hour allowed for the exam.

Examination questions will be taken from Sacramento Texts, WEF FD-3, industry practice, and
Indiana State Rules and Regulations governing wastewater operations and operators.
Please see the "study guide" for a list of textbooks. There will be no questions on biological treatment processes.

The RIWP  Exam will be offered at times announced in the IIOA Journal.

Certification

Upon passing 70% of the 100-question exam, the operator will be granted the professional designation of
Registered Industrial Wastewater Professional (RIWP). This is a dynamic credential which requires
continuing education credits for renewal. The IIOA operator credential committee sets standards and
makes recommendations for re-certification fees to the IIOA Board of Directors. The successful candidates will receive the RIWP lapel pin denoting the credential.

Qualifications of Candidates:

bulletWorks in the Industrial Field
bulletExcellent Work Record
bullet1 Year Experience in Wastewater (minimum)
bulletNo Clean Water Act or Environmental Convictions

Awards Selection Process:

bullet100 point multiple choice, true/false, fill in the blanks, written examination

This is a "peer reviewed" examination.   Candidates will not be given the opportunity to challenge or contest the questions. 
IIOA officers, directors and board members are ineligible to compete for prize money.
All candidates receiving a score of 70% or higher will receive a current
Registered Industrial Wastewater Professional (RIWP) pocket card from the IIOA and certificate suitable for framing.  The credential will remain the property of the IIOA and the IIOA may automatically revoke the certification for cause.  Ownership of the RIWP resides
with the granting organization.  The use of this credential must be in compliance with IIOA guidelines established for the use.  In the event of decertification the pocket card, lapel pin and all rights to use must be
returned to the IIOA.   The IIOA neither endorses or makes any warranty about candidates who are
registered under the RIWP program.  The candidate must agree to be bound by the rules established
for such use.

Registered Industrial Wastewater Professional

RIWP

Sponsoring Organization: Indiana Industrial Operators Association, Inc. (IIOA)

A new professional designation is now available from the IIOA. Industrial Operators
and persons working in the area of wastewater
may
earn this new credential by satisfactory completion of the RIWP examination.
The exam will be offered at least two times each year. Announcement of the exam will be made
in the official publications of the IIOA (IIOA Journal and IIOA website www.iioa.net)
at least 30 days prior to the date of the exam.

Rules of Conduct

  1. Candidates may only sit for the examination twice each year.
  2. Holders of the RIWP credential may not compete for prize money.
  3. Candidates desiring to earn the RIWP credential may sit for the exam during regularly scheduled IIOA Board of Directors meetings or announced events.
  4. This is a closed book exam.  Notes, programmed calculators and reference materials are not permitted during the exam.
  5. Candidates may bring pencils, erasers and a hand held calculator to the exam.
  6. A formula sheet and note paper will be provided for reference and must be turned in at the end of the exam.
  7. All questions are in English.
  8. Exams and reference sheets are the property of the granting organization.
  9. Persons with suspended or revoked wastewater licenses are ineligible to apply for the exam.
  10. Persons convicted of violating the Clean Water Act or Resource Conservation & Recovery Act are ineligible to hold the RIWP.
  11. Grand-Fathering is not permitted. All candidates, regardless of status, must sit for the exam.

Upon successful completion of the exam with a passing score of 70% a pocket card and certificate
suitable for framing will be awarded to the candidate.

In order to maintain the RIWP credential, annual continuing education credits must be earned and a review quiz completed. The credential committee will set the requirements for the annual education and any fees associated with credential renewal.
